BIO: JULIE MCGREGOR is a Toronto based Vocalist with a natural delivery and a rich, warm tone. She draws her audiences in with an intimate and expressive storytelling style. Her repertoire covers a wide range of Traditional and Modern Jazz, Blues, Swing and Latin standards. 'Julie and her band were simply amazing! I have no words to describe the wonderful performance they gave....Every aspect of working with Julie was flawless, and when it came to the performance itself, she was fantastic. Beautiful voice, great selection of songs, fantastic delivery.' T.Valenski
Julie was nominated for Best Jazz at the New Music Awards and was awarded Best Jazz Vocalist at the Burlington Jazz Festival. As part of the Toronto Jazz Festiva 2013, 2014, and 2015, Julie hosted the popular Singer's Jazz Series that she started in 2011. Each show, filled with exciting performances by local jazz vocalists, jazz poetry artists and Toronto's finest musicians, was often sold-out with lineups down the street. At the centre of it all, was Canadian Jazz Great, Norm Amadio who played piano and was the first Canadian to play the original Birdland in 1954, and just so happened opposite Duke Ellington. Norm Amadio retired at 86 and did his last gig with her at Pauper's Pub as part of the TO Jazz Festival in 2015. Julie then put together her own crew of great jazz musicians forming The Kensie Jazz Band. They are in high demand and have performed at many prestigious clubs and hotels in Toronto including the surrounding area at venues like The Richmondhill Performing Arts Centre, Yonge-Dundas Square, Brassaii, RCYC, The Four Seasons Yorkville, Guelph University, The 180 Club, The Old Mill, Evergreen Brickworks, Universal Events, The Spoke Club, The TIFF building and The Pearson Centre. Recently, they performed as a 9 piece band for a James Bond Show at The King Edward Hotel and at the Jazz Festival at The Intercontinental Hotel in Yorkville. Julie has a few musical projects in the works and hopes soon to put a CD of standards and new songs she has written.
Julie is also an accomplished fine artist having exhibited at The Varley Gallery, The Tom Thomson Gallery and The Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, to name a few, as well as a Freelance Concept Designer for the Feature Film and TV Industry.
